Exquisite Corpse, 2025
Oil paint on four detached wooden panels
each panel 5 × 5 in.
overall dimensions 10 × 10 in.

Exquisite Corpse is a mosaic face assembled across four separate and disconnected wooden panels. The face is fragmented and reassembled both in technique and in composition, transforming the body into something modular and controllable. Like a doll, the face can be taken apart and reconfigured without resistance. Its expression will remain fixed and silent, witnessing movement from the audience member and receiving projecting without response.
The mosaic surface hardens the face into an object. The eyes are watchful yet vacant, suggesting awareness without agency. By allowing the panels to be mismatched, the work resists a stable identity and instead proposes the body as an emotional object that can be adjusted to suit external needs.
This constructed face exists between portrait and object, intimacy and distance. It resembles a doll not because it is decorative, but because it is passive, rearrangeable, and emotionally mute. The work reflects how contemporary relationships often rely on controlled surfaces and emotional proxies, using objects to negotiate vulnerability while avoiding direct response.
